Mouse Cat Toy

Treat your beloved cat to a new toy! This project is quick (approximately 2 hours to complete) and makes a great gift for fellow cat-lovers.

Materials

Worsted weighted yarn and contrasting colour for stitching eyes

Stuffing (Fibre fill)

Hook size – 5.0mm

Tapestry needle

Optional: cheese cloth and cat nip

Abbreviations

ch = chain

st = stitch
sc = single crochet
DEC1= single crochet 2 stitches together to decrease stitch count by 1

INC1 = sc 2 stitches into the same stitch to increase stitch count by 1

sl st = slip stitch

rnd = round

( ) number in brackets are a stitch count total for the end of each round.

Pattern:

BODY –

Ch 3, sl st

Rnd 1 – ch1, sc 4 through the middle of the loop, sl st (4)

Rnd 2 – ch 1, sc 1, INC 1, sc 1, INC 1, sl st (6)

Rnd 3 – ch 1, INC 1 on each of the 6 stitches, sl st (12)

Rnd 4 – Ch 1, sc 12, sl st (12)

Rnd 5 – Ch 1, sc 1, INC 1, sc 2, INC 1, sc 2, INC 1, sc 1, sl st (16)

Rnd 6 – ch 1, sc 5, INC 1 on each of the next 6 stitches, sc 5, sl st (22)

Rnd 7 – ch 1, sc 22, sl st (22)

Rnd 16 – ch 1, DEC 1 on the next 24 st to make 12 sts total (12)

Fasten off and leave a long yarn tail.

Stuff and shape the body of the mouse.

Optional – use a piece of cheese cloth and wrap some cat nip in it. Stuff this in the body with the rest of the stuffing.

Weave the tail through last 6 st to secure the stuffing.

 

Tail:

Options: you could use the tail remaining from the tail of the body, or you can weave that in and cut and attach another one.
Crochet tail: CH 15, turn, skip the 15^th stitch, chain back through the stitches 14 – 1 to build a tail. Fasten off and stitch to bum of mouse.

 

Ears: (Make two)

CH 4, sl st to first ch to make a loop

Rnd 1 – sc 8 into the centre loop, sl st (8)

Rnd 2 – ch 1, INC 1 in next 8 stitches, sl st and fasten off (16)

Leave a long yarn tail and use to stitch ears to body of mouse.

 

Eyes and nose (optional): Use needle to stitch these details on in a contrasting colour.
